She married 17 December 1772 at Barrington, N. S. Israel Doane, born 20 December 1750 at Eastham, Mass.; son of Edmund4 (Israel3, Daniell, John].) and Elizabeth (Osborn) Doane; died 1 February 1844 at Argyle. Israel was a descendant of William Brewster.
Israel went with his father and family from Cape Cod to Nova Scotia in 1761. Desire went with her family to Liverpool, Nova Scotia in 1764. After their marriage in 1772 they settled at Barrington, but moved to Little River in June 1781. In March 1787, Israel, with Desire's father and three others purchased 1250 acres of Crown Lands. As a man who "had a good education for the times", he taught school in Tusket Lakes and Roberts Islands, and was described as "somewhat lax in government but always his heavy stamp upon the floor was a well understood signal for law and order". As something of a public figure, he also led the prayer meetings of the Argyle Baptist Church where he and Desire were members. Desire was baptized by Rev. Enoch Towner "in the harbor only a few yards from their door". (Q-2). Having suffered with asthma for sixteen years, Desire finally succumbed in 1835 at the home of her daughter Susannah, where she and Israel were then living. She and Israel were buried in unmarked graves in the Baptist Church Burying Grounds.
