Joanna Howell1,2

F, b. 1740, d. 15 December 1821
     Joanna was born in 1740 in Mattituck in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. She was the daughter of Captain Richard Howell and Elizabeth Tuthill. Joanna married David Terry Jr. on 30 October 1760 in Aquabogue in the Town of Southold.3 David and Joanna had children: child [1761], Joanna [1762-1809] [m. 1782 William Zadock Wellman], Gershom [1764-10/31/1840], child [1766], child [1768], Mary [1770-9/22/1839], Parshall [1774-1850] [m. 1799 Zady Goodrich], Elizabeth [1778-1870] [m. 2/12/1794 Jesse Moon], David [12/17/1783-1856]. Joanna's husband, David, died on 31 October 1814 in Wallingford, Rutland County, Vermont, leaving her a widow. Joanna departed this life on Saturday, 15 December 1821 in Wallingford at age 81 years. She was buried there in Sugar Hill Cemetery. The inscription on her tombstone reads: Mrs. Joanna wife of David Terry died Dec. 15th 1821 in the 82nd year of her life.4
