Mehitable Horton

     Mehitable was born on Monday, 23 January 1679 in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.² She was the daughter of Jonathan Horton I Captain and Bethia Wells. Mehitable married Christopher Bradley after 1698 in the Town of Southold. Christopher and Mehitable had a son, Jonathan, who died before 23 Novembr 1739.³ Mehitable's husband, Christopher, died before 21 February 1707 in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, leaving her a widow. Mehitable married 2nd Deacon Daniel Tuthill, son of John Tuthill and Deliverance King, in 1705 in the Town of Southold.⁴ Daniel and Mehitable had children: Mehitable [9/09/1706] [m. 1724 Thomas Terry], Nathaniel [7/01/1708]. Abigail [4/09/1710] [m. Henry Havens], Daniel [1/15/1712], Noah [3/13/1714] [m. 11/02/1738 Hannah Tuthill], Patience 3/11/1716] [m. 10/24/1733 John Havens], Lydia [5/06/1718-8/25/1780] [m. 9/18/1737 Jonathan Terry] & Mary [6/30/1721] [m. Nathaniel Terry]. Mehitable departed this life on Wednesday, 7 September 1757 in the Town of Southold at age 78 years, 7 months and 15 days.² She was buried there in the First Presbyterian Church burying ground in the village of Southold. The inscription on her tombstone reads: In memory of Mrs. Mehitable Tuthill Wife of Mr. Daniel Tuthill who die November 27th 1788 Aged 73 years - Our age to Seventy Years is set How short the term how frail the state.
