     John was born on Saturday, 24 May 1670 in Mattituck in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. He was the son of Richard Howell I and Miss _____. John married Margaret Reeves in 1690 in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. This date is stated in the Riverhead Town book by Virginia Wine but in 1698, John is alone on the census. They were possibly married later. 1698, John waslisted on the Southold Town Census. Enumerated in this household were John Howell. He is listed by himself on this census. John made his will on 14 December 1733 at the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.

In the name of God, Amen. The 14 December, 1733, I, John Howell, of Southold, in Suffolk County, yeoman, being at present very sick. I leave to my wife Hannah all my movable estate, to be disposed of at her decease as she shall think fit, to my daughters, except as hereinafter given; I also leave to her the use of all lands, and meadows, and houses for four years; and the use of one room in my dwelling house, and one end of my barn, and the use of 1/3 of all lands during her widowhood. I leave to my son, John Howell (the son of Margaret Howell my former wife), two steers and one heifer. I leave to my son, Jonathan Howell (the son of Hannah Howell, my present wife), all my lands and tenements whatsoever, after my wife's decease, also 2 steers and 1 heifer. I leave to each of my daughters, Eunice, Jemima, and Esther, one good cow. I make my wife sole executor. [New York Wills: Liber 12, page 138]

John departed this life on Wednesday, 20 January 1734 in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.
