     James was born on Friday, 30 May 1783 in Mattituck in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. He was the son of Parshall Howell I and Charity Mather [Marther]. James departed this life on Wednesday, 21 February 1787 in Mattituck in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.3 He was buried in Mattituck in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, in the Presbyterian Church Cemetery. He was buried iin grave U 81. His stone reads: "James, son of Mr. Parshal and Mrs. Charity Howel who died Feb. 21st 1787 3 years, 8 mos. and 22 days.
