Benjamin was born in 1729 in Throgs Neck, Westchester County, New York, at "The Homestead". He was the son of James Ferris and Anne Sands. Benjamin & Sarah had children: Sands [ca. 1778-5/08/1840], Benjamin Jr. [d. 11/17/1828], Cornell, Ann [1777-1817], Elizabeth, James [d. 1798 unmarried], Sarah [1766-6/23/1786 m. Jonathan Smith]. Benjamin married Sarah Palmer in New York. He served in the 4th Regiment of Westchester County militia under Colonel Crane. Benjamin made his will on 25 November 1777 at Westchester.
I Benjamin Ferris of the Borough Town of Westchester in the County of Westchester and Province of New York being very weak of body but of sound mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of life I do make therefore this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following First I order my Executors hereafter named to sell all my houses lands and tenements which I have in the Borough Town of Westchester as soon after my decease as my Executors shall think Convenient except one lot of my homestead called the Robert Lot with a small lot called the mill house patch and four rods in length and four in breadth on my homestead for a burying place where the burying place now is together with ten acres of my best wood land on Frogs Neck I give unto my Wife Sarah Ferris so long as she shall remain my Widow for to bring up mu Children upon but after the death or marriage of my Widow I order my Executors to sell all the said land which I have given unto my Widow and all the moneys arriving from the Sale of said lands I give and bequeath unto all my children Sons and daughters to be divided equally amongst them all share and share alike I also give and bequeath unto my Widow one negro Girl named Ester and unto my daughter Elizabeth I give one negro Girl named Tamar I also bequeath unto my Widow all my Cows and one pair oxen and Cart together with such household goods as my Executors shall think proper and all the residue and remainder of my moveable estate I order my Executors to dispose of at publick vendue and out of the moneys form the sale of my houses lands and moveable estate I order my Executors to pay all my just debts and out of the remainder of the money I order my Executors to pay my Son James one hundred pounds Lawful money of New York if their should be that sum remaining after my just debts is paid and if there is or should be any money yet remaining I give it unto my Widow for to support her and my Children upon Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my Wife Sarah Ferris and my brother Uriah Field and Josiah Quimby Executors of this my Last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and Seal the twenty fifth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Seventy seven - - - Benjamin Ferris - - - Signed Sealed published and declared by the Testator to be his last Will and Testament in the presence of us Josiah Quimby Moses Quimby Mercy Honeywell.3
Benjamin departed this life on Thursday, 25 November 1779 in Westchester at age 50 years. His will was probated on 30 June 1783.4
