William was born in 1548 in Sowerby, Halifax Parish, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of Christopher Feld and Grace Gradeheighe. In 1548, he was christened at St. John the Baptist Church, Halifax, Halifax Parish, Yorkshire, England. William was a clothier merchant- buying and selling cloth made in theWakefield area of England. He resided on land which included a causeway and was at times referred to as William Field de le Cawsey. William married Susan Midgley, daughter of John Midgley, on 1 June 1591 in North Oram, Halifax Parish, Yorkshire, England. William made his will at North Oram, Halifax Parish, Yorkshire, England.
He left the lands he occupied to his wife, Susan. He left legacies to his daughters: Jane, Susan & Isabel, and to his sons: Joseph & Robert, and his son-i-law, Robert Rawson. He commits the custody and tuicon to Robert Feild and of their portions to his brother, Edward Feild and makes the later esecutor. The residue of his estate to be equally divided among George, Jane, Susan, Robert & Isabel.4
