John Curtis1

M, b. before 15 September 1577
     John was born in Nazeing, County Essex, England. He was christened there on 15 September 1577 in All Saints Church. He was the son of William Curtis and Agnes (?) John married Ann Sansome on 12 June 1608 in Nazeing, County Essex, England, at All Saints Church.2 John's wife, Ann, died before 19 April 1610 in Nazeing, County Essex, England, leaving him a widower. John married 2nd Elizabeth Hutchins on 19 April 1610 in Nazeing at All Saints Church.2 John is last found in England in a tax record of 1637, and as a jurer in the Manorial Court in Nazeing . By 1639, he and his family had immigrated to Massachusetts and had sttled in Roxbury near his nephew, William. John departed this life in Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut.

Important Notes: In 1961, The Curtis Society erected a memorial to John and his family. The inscription reads: In Sacred Memory of John & Elizabeth Hutchins Curtiss M. 19 Apr 1610 Nazing Eng. Arrived Roxxbury, Mass. about 1636 John Bapt. 1577 D. 1639 Widow Curtiss, Son John, William and Thomas Settled Stratford 1639 She died June 1658 Stratford.
