John was born before 26 February 1614/15 in Nazeing, County Essex, England. He was christened there on 26 February 1614/15 in Nazeing. He was the son of John Curtis and Elizabeth Hutchins. In the spring of 1635, John left England aboard the ship, "Safety", mastered by John Graunt bound for New England. Listed amoung the passengers were Jo. Curtis aged 21 years and Thomas Heath aged 23 years. The arrived in Boston the 10th of August.3 John married Elizabeth (?) circa 1641. John's wife, Elizabeth, died on 9 March 1682 in Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut, leaving him a widower. John departed this life on Friday, 2 December 1707 in Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut. He was buried there in the Old Congregational Church Burying Ground.4
