Nathaniel Covell II1,2

     Nathaniel was born circa 1644 in Chemlsford, County Essex, England. He was the son of Nathaniel Covell I. He arrived in Boston 26 Aug 1653. Nathaniel arrived in the New World at the young age of nine with his father gravely ill and dying. He agreed to be of service to Edward Winslow for seven years. Part of that time Nathaniel spent in the service of Peregrine White, Edward's son-in-law. At the end of his service he received £ 10 and commodities to set him up to live independently. After fulfilling his obligation he moved to Yarmouth. Nathaniel married Sarah Nickerson, daughter of William Nickerson II and Anne Busby, circa 1662 in Yarmouth, Barnstable County, Massachusetts. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Monomoit, to the land given to Sarah by her father. Nathaniel departed this life in December 1687 in Monomoit, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.

[S290] Nickerson Family Association, The Nickerson Family, pages 21-22 - The History of Chatham states, "the exact year in which Nathaniel Covell died is not certain but it was not far from 1682, in which year Robert Eldredge, his brother-in-law (husband of Elizabeth) died. Both were in the prime of life and left large families".
         Nathaniel, a saddler, arrived in Boston on 26 August 1653, from England. When he was yet a boy and his father lay dying, he agreed to serve Mr. Edward Winslow of Marshfield, Mass. until 7 years after his arrival in New England. For part of this period Mr. Winslow assigned him to his son-in-law, Peregrine White. For his service he was to receive "his passage over, his support, and 10 pounds in goods and commodities, 13 bushels of Indian corn, and a good double apparel at the end of his time". His employ over, he went to Yarmouth where he married Sarah. Soon afterward they moved to Monomoit and lived on land given to Sarah by her father, near Alewife River and Ryder's Cove. He was designated constable in 1674.

    This Indenture made the eighteenth Day of Aprill in the yeare of our Lord God on Thousand six hundred fifty and three Between Nathaniell Covell sonne of Nathaniell Covell late of Chelmesford in the County of Essex yeoman Deceased on the one pte; And Edward Winslow of Marshfield in New England gentleman in New England on the other pte Witnesseth that the said Nathaniell Covell the son of Nathaniell Covell doth heerby convenant promise and graunt to and with the said Edward Winslow his exequitors and assignes from the Day of the Date hereof until his first and Next arrival in New England aforesaid and after for and During the tearmeof seaven yeares to serve in such service and Imployment as hee the said Edward Winslow or his assignes shall there Imploy him according to the Costome of the Countrey in like kind; In Consideration wherof the said Edward Winslow Doth heerby for him selfe his exequitors and assignes Covenant and graunt to and with the said Nathaniell Covell to pay for his passage and to find and allow him meat Drinke apparel and lodging with other necessaries During the said Tearme and att the end of the said Tearme to pay unto the said Nathaniell Covell the sonne the value or worth of ten pounds of lawfull money of England in such goods and Comodities as the Countrey affords and alsoe thirteen bushels of good Indian Corn; and then alsoe to provide for and Deliver unto him the said Nathaniell Covell good Double apparel in Wittnesse wherof the said pties above mencioned to these Indenturs have Interchangeably sett theire hands and seales the Day and yeare first abovewritten

    These are to signify that Mr Edward Winslow by a letter sent to mee bearing Date the second of may 1653 gave mee power in his name to assigne over the pty within Named (Nathaniell Covell) to Mr. Perigrine White his sonneinlaw to serve him according to this Indenture and the full time therof the which I have now Donne this 16th of September 1653 they both asppearing before me at this time;

    Alsoe the said Mr. Perigrine Whnite Doth heerby bind himself his heires exquitors and assignes to performd the Covenants within specified to this his servant mencioned in this Indentue amd Discharge Mr. Edward Winslow of the same and for that end hath hereunto put his hand;
