David was born in Harberton, Devonshire, England. He was christened there on 18 October 1629 in St. Andrew's Church.4 He was the son of Henry Burt and Eulalia March. David was a farmer as well as a land surveyor. David married Mary Holton, daughter of William Holton and Mary (?), on 16 November 1655 in Northampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. David and Mary were the first to be married in Northampton. Their marriage record was hard to read - it read either 1654 or 1655. In a surprise raid at Schenectady, David was taken captive by the Indians and taken to Canada in a forced march where at least 19 men died. David departed this life in 1690 in Northampton. It is not known if David died on the march of while in captivity in Canada. The family never heard news of him again.
