Colonel John Burr

     John was born on Saturday, 2 May 1671 in Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut. John married Deborah Barlow, daughter of John Barlow II and Abigail Lockwood, before 28 August 1698 in Fairfield.1 John and Deborah had children: John Jr. [8/28/1698-9/13/1752] [m. 10/18/1772 Catherine Wakeman], Deborah [1705-11/28/1726], Mary Dimon [7/04/1708-9/12/1766] [m. 1/04/1747 Col. John Smedley] & William [12/091711-5/05/1769] [m. 1735 Mary Wakeman & 2nd. Charity Wells]. John's wife, Deborah, died on 4 December 1726 in Fairfield leaving him a widower.2 John departed this life on Saturday, 13 June 1750 in Bridgeport, Fairfield County, Connecticut, at age 79 years, 1 month and 11 days. He was buried there in Old Stratford Cemetery. The inscription on his tombstone reads: Here lyes the body of Col. John Burr who Departed this life June 13 Anno Dom. 1750 in the 79th year of his age.3
