Marie-Josephe Caillas

     Marie-Josephe was born in Champlain, Les Chenaux County, Quebec, Canada. She was christened there on 18 March 1694 in the church of La Visitation.¹ She was the daughter of Pierre Caillas and Marie-Therese Aure. Marie-Josephe married Joseph Mercereau on 13 January 1715 in Champlain at the church of La Visitation.² Joseph & Marie-Josephe had children: Marie-Josephe [1/28/1716-5/27/1747][m. 1/03/1740 Louis Marchand], Genevieve [8/29/1717-6/26/1748][m. 11/19/1736 Jean-Baptiste Raux], Joseph [3/27/1719-3/25/1784][m. 7/07/1761 Marie Judith Elisabeth Roy Desjardins], Francois-Marie [11/03/1721-6/12/1723] & Antoine [6/10/1723-6/12/1723].³ Marie-Josephe's husband, Joseph, died on 31 December 1722 in Champlain leaving her a widow. Marie-Josephe married 2nd Francois Lucas dit Dontigny on 27 August 1724 in Champlain at the church of La Visitation.⁴ Francois & Marie-Joseph had children: Francois [6/05/1725-7/09/1725], Francois [8/26/1726-11/12/1747], child [5/22/1728-5/22/1728], Marie-Therese [7/05/1729-11/10/1765][m. 1/24/1752 Joseph Duteau dit Topurville], Alexis [1/06/1732-6/23/1808][m. 1/06/1761 Marie-Anne Heon], Etienne-Veronique [5/04/1733-5/06/1733] & Alexis [1/29/1735-5/28/1735].⁵ Marie-Josephe departed this life in Champlain. She was buried there in the churchyard of la Visitation on Saturday, 30 October 1779.⁶
