William Belden1

M, b. before 23 April 1609, d. before 1 June 1655
     William was born in Heptonstall, parish of Halifax, Yorkshire, England. He was christened there on 23 April 1609 in St. Thomas the Apostle.2 He was the son of Lawrence Baildon. William married Commisin (?) circa 1645 in Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut. William made his will on 27 March 1655 at Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut.

The last Will & Testament of William Belden, late of Wethersfield: Imprimis: I give to my Sonne Sam: £15 when he shall com to the age Of one and twenty years. Item: I give to my son Daniell Belden £15 when he shall com to the age of 21 years. I give to my son John Belden £15 to be paid him when he com to the age of one and twenty years. I give to my daughter Susannah Belden £15 when she shall com to the Age of 18 yeares. I give to my daughter Mary Belden £15 to be paid her when she shall com to the age of 18 yeares. I give to my son Nath: Belden £15 to be paid him when he shall com to the age of one and twenty yeares. My will is that if should please God to take anyone of them out of this world before they com to receive their portions the eldest shall give five pounds of his or their portion and the rest of his portion shall be equally divided amongst the rest – And if more than one shall depart this life before he or she com to receive their portion then the portion shall be equally divided amongst the rest Item I make Commisin Belden my whole & sole Executrix. I doe also Desire Sam: Smith and Nath: Dickinson, senior, to be supervisors of this my Will, to doe wt they can to Advice and Counsell my wife, & to doe their best to take Care of my Little ones, and to see my Body to be honourably Buried. - - - WILL X BELDEN. - - - Witness: Thomas Wright, Samuel Wright.3,4

William departed this life in Wethersfield. The inventory of William's estate was taken on Tuesday, 1 June 1655 by John Deming, Samuel Smith & Nathaniel Dickenson. The estate was valued at £142 6s. 8d. with debts of £133 7s.8d. for net value of £8 19s. 6d.
