Samuel Wright1

Samuel was born on Thursday, 27 August 1761 in Rye, Westchester County, New York. He was the son of Jotham Wright I and Tabiatha Sammis. Samuel learned the trade of a carpenter and that of a builder. After their marriage, they settled in Essex street. & later removing to No. 3 Jones street, N. Y. City. "Samuel Wright enlisted on Nov. 7. 1778, in Capt. Arson's company. 3d N. Y. Regt, Col. Peter Ganseroort. Comdg. He was mustered to serve to the end of the War, in place of one Thomas Nelson, who had been a Sergeant in Capt. Tiebout's company, of the same regiment. "Samuel Wright was a sergeant in the N. Y. Troops for a period of two years of actual service". Samuel married Phebe Cheeseman on 13 May 1786 in New York City, New York County, New York, at the 1st or 2nd Presbyterian Church.2 Samuel & Phebe had children: Sarah [7/28/1787-8/08/1789], Joseph Cheesman [1/01/1790-1/18/1834], Mary [9/12/1792-11/14/1876] [m. Benjamin Lyon], Sarah [3/15/1795-11/08/1884] [m. 9/25/1813 James De Gray], Oliver [12/13/1792-2/04/1871], Harriet [8/20/1797-1/14/1835] [m. 5/11/1820 George Stringham Weekes [9//05/1794-1/10/1835]], Charles Sammis [4/24/1800-7/03/1887], & Susan, [1/09/1804-8/06/1829].3 Samuel departed this life on Saturday, 5 July 1806 in New York City at age 44 years, 10 months and 8 days.
