John Whitney1

M, b. 28 January 1717/18, d. after 1797
     John was born on Friday, 28 January 1717/18 in Ridgefield, Fairfield County, Connecticut.2 He was the son of Henry Whitney and Elizabeth Olmsted. John married Hephzibah Olmstead on 15 June 1746 in Ridgefield. John and Hepzibah had children: John [4/21/1747] [m. 2/031768 Rebecca Moorehouse], Samuel [10/12/1749-7/12/1822] [2/11/1772 Mary St. John] & Benjamin [1/23/1758-2/15/1847] [m. Anne Mercy]. On 28 Mar 1744, John had the south half of his father's homestead in Ridgefield, Fairfield County, Connecticut. On 14 February 1753, he sold his home property which he had inherited from his father. By 20 March 1771, John & his family resided at Salem, Westchester County, New York. John's wife, Hephzibah, died on 20 May 1753 in Ridgefield, Fairfield County, Connecticut, leaving him a widower. John married 2nd Thankful Benedict after 20 May 1753 in Ridgefield. John departed this life after 1797. A note has been found that he visited his son, Samuel, at this time.
