James Waklee

M, b. circa 1594
     James was born circa 1594 in England. He had lands recorded in his name in Feruary 1639/40 in Hartford, Connecticut. He later moved to Wethersfield. James married Alice (?) on 5 October 1652 in Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut. He was constable and severed on juries beween the years 1653 to 1662. By January of 1663 he had fled from his wife and family and moved to Rhode Island. In May of 1663, James gave power of attorney to his son, Henry having forfeited a £150. As a result his house and property were sold. He had been accused of a capital crime, possibly witchcraft. James and Alice both attempted to get a divorce, but were all denied.1 James's wife, Alice, died on 30 August 1683 in Wethersfield leaving him a widower.
