John Whitney1

John was born before 20 January 1644 possibly at the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. On the 20th of January 1665, John was granted land in Southold. This notes that he was of age by this date. Unfortunately, no substanciating evidence has been found. He was the son of Henry Whitney. John married Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Richard Smith, on 17 March 1674/75 in Norwalk, Fairfield County, Connecticut. It is not known exactly when or where John was born. On 20 January 1665, John was granted land in Southold, Suffolk County, New York. Around 24 July 1665, he settled with his father in Norwalk and followed his father in the business of millwright and miller. He married and raised his family in Norwalk, He spends the rest of his life here. John departed this life before 11 October 1720 in Norwalk. John's son-in-law, Joseph Keeler was appointed administrator of his estate.
