Eunice Travis

     Eunice was born on Thursday, 11 June 1789 in Argyle, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. She was the daughter of Nathaniel Travis and Rose Crowell. Eunice married John Matthew Jeffery Jr., son of John Matthew Jeffery and Lydia Ann Randall, on 26 October 1809 in Nova Scotia, Canada.¹ The family resided in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia until they moved to Oakville, Ontario in the mid 1820's with members of John's family. Eunice's husband, John, died on 27 October 1838 in Oakville leaving her a widow. After her husband's death, Eunice lived with her son, John Norman, and his wife, Charlotte. In 1851, Eunice was listed on the Canadian census residing in the home of her son in the village of Oakville, Trafalgar Township, Halton County, Ontario, Canada. Enumberated in the household were John Jeffry [34 Nova Scotia][Widowed][ship's carpenter][Methodist], Elizabeth [11 Canada], John [5 Canada], Emiline [3 Canada], Eunie [63 Nova Scotia][Baptist], George Jeffry [38 Nova Scotia], Mary A. [28 Ireland], John [11 Canada], James [9 Canada], George M. [7 Canada], Melinda [6 Canada], Amos Randall [3 Canada], Elizabeth Randall [1 Canada]. John's wife died of consumption at age 25 years. The home is a one story framed house.² Eunice departed this life on Sunday, 17 November 1867 in Oakville at age 78 years, 5 months and 6 days. She was buried there in the Oakville Cemetery.
