Samuel Torrey^1,2

M, b. 11 February 1705/6, d. 16 September 1745

Samuel was born on Thursday, 11 February 1705/6 in Weymouth, Norfolk County, Massachusetts.³ He was the son of Lieut. John Torrey and Mary Symmes. Samuel married Abigail Snowden, daughter of William Snowden and Rachel Woodward, on 7 October 1726 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. They were married by Mr. Joseph Sewall.^4,5 Samuel & his family moved from Weymouth, Massachusetts to Middletown, Connecticut in 1736. Samuel's wife, Abigail, died on 12 July 1737 in Middletown leaving him a widower.⁶ Samuel married 2nd Martha Strickland on 16 February 1737/38 in Middletown.⁷ In the spring of 1745. he went, as a commissioned officer in the Connecticut regiment of the military expedition to capture Louisburg on Cape Breton Island. After the capture, he continued there as one of the officers of the garrison. In that same year, Samuel departed this life on Thursday, 16 September 1745 in Louisburg at age 39 years, 7 months and 5 days.
