Samuel Torrey

Samuel was born in 1675 in Weymouth, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He was the son of William Torrey II and Deborah Greene. He and his brother Haviland were curriers by trade in the city of Boston. [Note: A currier was a person who dressed and colored hide after it was tanned. - KLM] Samuel married Abigail Bridge on 29 June 1699 in Boston.1 Samuel and Abigail had children: Abigail [4/18/1700][m. 9/17/1721 Joseph Webb], Deborah [8/02/1701][m. 11/22/1737 Rev. Othniel Cambell] , William [5/29/1703-6/12/1703], Samuel [5/29/17037/15/1766]m. 1725 Silience Torrey], Persis [10/4/1704-1762 unmarried], William [4/23/1706-6/14/1732], John [11/29/1707] & Josiah 11/12/1710].2 Samuel departed this life on Friday, 6 September 1748 in Boston at age 73 years.1 He was buried in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, in the Granary Burying Ground. The inscription on his tombstone reads: Samuel Torrey Died Sept. 6, 1748 Aged 73 years.3
