John Topping

     John was born in 1636 in Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut. He was of the son Thomas Topping and Emma Aldridge. He first married, circa 1656, Sarah White at Southampton, Suffolk County, New York. John married Deborah Lockwood, daughter of Robert Lockwood and Susannah Norman, on 19 April 1678 in Southampton, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. John made his will on 28 May 1686 at Sagaponack, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. In his will he named his wife Deborah and children Josiah, John, Zerobabel, Ephraim. John departed this life on Wednesday, 29 May 1686 in Sagaponack at age 50 years. He was buried there in Sagg Cemetery. The inscription on his tombstone reads: Here Lyeth the Body of John Topping: Justice of the Peace Aged 50 years Who Departed this LIfe in the 29th day of May in the year 1686.¹ His will was probated on 19 October 1686.
