Violet Stedman

Violet was born on Monday, 2 January 1708 in Farmington, Hartford County, Connecticut.1 She was the daughter of John Stedman III and Abigail Andrews. Violet married Samuel Hills circa 1736 in Connecticut. Samuel & Violet had children: Violet [1739-4/05/1804] [m. 6/09/1761 Elijah Tucker], Hannah [1742-1788] [m. 4/28/1763 Brinton Paine], Samuel [3/02/1743], Demaris [1744-3/01/1724] [m. 1764 John Payne], Lucy [1746-2/26/1826] [m. 1765 Moses Thrall], & Susannah [2/17/1748-2/18/1834] [m. 1769 Ebenezer Nash]. Violet departed this life on Monday, 14 July 1749 in East Harvard, Hartford County, Connecticut, at age 41 years, 6 months and 12 days. She was buried there in Center Cemetery. The inscription on her tombstone reads: Here Lyes the Body of Mrs. Violet wife of Mr. Samuel Hills who was killed by lightening July 14th 1749 in the 40th year of her age.2
