William Smith

William was born circa 1466 in Stratford St. Mary, County Suffolk, England.1 He was the son of William Smith. His paternal grandfather, John Smith, left him six silver spoons dated 3 March 1468, He is also mentioned in his father’s will of 1492; in the will of his stepmother Katherine in 1511; in the 1533 will of his full brother, John the Younger, as Sir William Smith; and in the 1542 will of his nephew, John Smith, also as Sir William who had deceased. William made his will on 5 September.

Preste dwelling in the Town of Stradforde in the Countye of Suffolk . . . to buryede in the Church or Churchyard in the parish of Stradforde . . . unto my nevye John Smyth of Arwarton my house with all the houses and all my land . . . within the Town of Stradforde [parcels named] . . . unto the saide John Smith my nevye all my moveable Goodis that is to say all my Raymente all my naperie all my bedding all my brasse and pewter and all my fyre wood both faggot wood and logs and all my money . . . to Kateringe my niece dwelling in Farmingham, xl pounds . . . unto Anne my neace dwelling in Wickham Markett xl pounds . . . William departed this life in Stratford St. Mary. He was buried there in St. Mary's Church.2 His will was probated on 11 December 1540.
