John "the Younger" Smith

M, b. circa 1475, d. before 12 April 1534
     John "the Younger" was born circa 1475 in Stratford St. Mary, County Suffolk, England.1 He was the son of William Smith and Katherine Brown. He is mentioned in the wills of his parents dated 1492 & 1511. He is also mentined in his son's will [John] of 1542.1 After the birth of hi children, he moved to Erwarton. John made his will on 23 December 1533.

. . . of Erwarton . . . to be buried in the church of Erwarton at my stolys ende where I was wont to sytt . . . tythes . . . mother Cherch of Norwich . . . to the church walle of Erwarton . . . to a priest to sing in the parish church of Erwarton by the space of half a yere for my soule my frendys soulys and all cristen soules . . . Margaret my wyff shall have all my houses & londs . . . During hir lyff natural & keping her soele & a wedowe upon this condicion that John my son shall have to ferme during hir lyff all the said houses & londs reserving unto hir the new parlor and the litell boterye the hall and the boterye therto belonging With fre ingate & outgate att all tymes her fering and iii Neett cows goying and Feding upon the londs wynter mete and somer mete for the same Neett . . . after the deth of my wyff Margaret All my said houses & londes . . . shall remain for ever un to my son John and un to the issue of his bodie lawfullie coming & begoton & for defawte of issue of his bodie I will all the said houses & londes shall remain un to my bother John & un to the issue of his bodie lawfullie begoton. . . my wyff Margaret and my son John shall cause my soule & my frendys soules to be prayed for in the beaderoll during there lyffys Also I will that myn executors shall bury me honestlie and the people to have mete & drink And also to keep my xxxte daye & my yere day hontestlie with mete & drink & pristys & clerkys meny . . . to William Smyth my godson my maser & to every godson & god daughter onn lambe or ellse to each of them xd. . . . to Richard Grome my servant my blak cott . . . executors my wyff Margaret & my son John Symth And supervisor of this my last will & testament my Natural brothers Sir William Smyth and John Smyth of Stratforth.2

John departed this life before 12 April 1534 in Erwarton Parish. He was buried there in St. Mary's Church at my stools end.2 His will was probated on 12 April 1534.
