James Smith

James was born in Hempstead Town, Queens County, Long Island, New York. He was the son of Joseph & Mary Smith. He was christened there on 29 January 1733/34 in St. George's Anglician Church in the Town of Hempstead. James married Ame Searing, daughter of John Searing III and Elizabeth Reyerse, on 11 May 1753 at St. George's Anglician Church in the Town of Hempstead.1,2 James & Anne [Ame] had children: Samuel, Anne [m. Alexander McDonal], Elizabeth [m. Mr. Cornwell]] & Susan.. Some records name her as Anne & others Ame. Her ancestors call her Ame. James's wife, Ame, died before 25 November 1772 in Hempstead Town, Queens County, Long Island, New York, leaving him a widower. James married Anne Valentine on 25 November 1772 at St. George's Anglician Church in the Town of Hempstead. James made his will before 12 March 1810 at Hempstead Town, Queens County, Long Island, New York. He leaves his wife, Anne, 600 pounds & interest on 500 pounds for life. His estate was to be liquidated and divided into four equal parts and divided amongst his four children. He mentions his children: Samuel, Susan in trust, Anne, wife of Alexander McDonal, and his deceased daughter, Elizabeth wife of a Cornwell Elizabeth's share to be divided amongst her children.3 James departed this life in Hempstead Town. His will was probated on 12 March 1810.
