     Richard was born circa 1615 probably at Dorchester, Dorchestershire, England. Richard married Ester Horsford, daughter of William Horsford and Florence Hayward, circa 1641 in Windsor, Hartford County, Connecticut.7 Richard departed this life on Wednesday, 4 January 1650/51 in Windsor.8 The inventory of Richard's estate was taken by William Gaylord and John Bisswell. The estate was appraised at £110 6. Letters of Administration of his estate were granted on 1 June 1651 to the widow Ester. The ages of the children as John 8 years, Joannah 3 years and Mary one year..8 Court Record, 27 October, 1674: We the under writtened, In behalf of ourselves and Joane and Mary, the daughters of Richard Samwise, having received this day of the Secretary a bond: made to the Colony of Connecticut, of Sixty pounds, obligating ye grandfoather Horsford, or Uncle John Horsford, or our father Williams, to pay us such portions as they should judge meet doe acknowledge that the said Bond we have received this day and so shall make use of he same for the recovery of our portions according to the Order of the Court on the 24th of October, 1674. - - - Signed John Samwise, Richard Brush. As a result of the court order, the Court: John Winthrop, Gov., Mr. Richards and Capt. John Allyn – these, the Governor and Assistants, having considered the Estate left by Richard Samwise, Distributed the Estate as followeth: To the Widow, £24 13s.6p; To John Samwise, £25; To Joanne & Mary £12 10-s.
