John Shepard1

John was born circa 1627 in England. In 1627, he was christened in England. He was the son of Edward Shepard and Violet Wolterton. John married Rebecca Greenhill, daughter of Samuel Greenell and Rebecca Taylor, on 4 October 1649 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He was made freeman on 22 May 1650 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The family removed to Hartford sometime after 1666. On 4 August 1654, he received, from his Uncle Gregory Wolerton, 34 pounds for land his brother-in-law, Thomas Greenhil had bought of him & gave to his uncle for him.2 On 17 July 1674, his uncle, Gregory Wolterton, in his will, gave him certain lands. Also John was left one third of his father's estate in his will of 1 October 1674. John's wife, Rebecca, died on 22 December 1689 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut, leaving him a widower. A contract for the marriage of John and Susannah (?) was signed on 3 August 1691 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut. She was the widow of William Goodwin. John's wife, Susannah, died before 14 April 1698 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut, leaving him a widower. John married 3rd Martha (?) on 8 September 1698 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut. She was the widow of Arthur Henbury. John departed this life on Sunday, 12 June 1707 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut.
