William was born circa 1476 in County Sussex, England. He was the eldest son.1 He was the son of John Shelley Esquire and Eliza Michelgrove. He succeded his father on 3 January 1527 as a Member of Parliament. He was knoghted by King Henry VIII in 1529 in York Place. William made his will on 6 November 1548. He wrote a codicil to his will on 29 December 1548. William departed this life on Tuesday, 4 January 1549 in Clapham, County Sussex, England. He was buried in Clapham, County Sussex, England, in the Clapham Church.
