Gabriel Samson

     Gabriel was born on Friday, 28 August 1643 in Saint-Gatien-des-Bois, Lisieux, Calvados, Normandy, France. He was christened on the same day there in St-Gatien Church.¹ He was the son of Toussaint Samson and Catherine Chevalier. Before immigrating to Quebec, Gabriel signed a contract to work for Francois Becquet.² 1666, Gabriel was listed on the Canadian Census in Comte-de-Levis, Quebec, Canada. Enumerated in this household were Francois Becquet [41 years], Marguerite Desprez [40 years] & laborer under contract: Gabriel Senson [23 years].³ Gabriel married Francoise Durand, daughter of Martin Durand and Francoise Brunet, on 29 November 1669 in ville de Quebec, Quebec, Canada, at the Basilica of Notre Dame.² 1681, Gabriel and Francoise were listed on the Canadian Census in Comte-de-Levis, Quebec, Canada. Enumerated in this household were Gabriel Samson [36 years], Francois Durand [24 years], Pierre [11 years], Perrine [9 years], Jeanne [6 years], Jean [4 years] & Marguerite [2 years].⁴ Gabriel departed this life on Friday, 30 June 1690 in ville de Quebec at Hotel-Dieu at age 46 years, 10 months and 2 days. On the same day, he was buried there in the cemetery of the Hotel-Dieu.⁵
