     John was born circa 1640 in Windsor, Hartford County, Connecticut. He was the son of Richard Sammis and Ester Horsford. John married Abigail Corey, daughter of John Corey and Ann Salmon, circa 1672 in Huntington, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. John first appears in public record in the purchase of a house and lot 20 January 1663 in the town of Huntington. He appeared on public records there quite often after that date. John married Mary Cornish, daughter of Thomas Cornish and Mary Stone, circa 1685 in Huntington, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. John made his will on 28 November 1693 at Huntington, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. He speaks of Abraham2 Corey and Isaac Corey as "my brothers-in-law." John departed this life on Monday, 18 January 1694 in Huntington, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. His will was probated on 23 January 1694.
