Matilda Ridgely

     Matilda was born circa 1816 in Jefferson Township, Delaware County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Westall Ridgely and Elizabeth Heim. Matilda married Thomas Charleton on 4 May 1841 in Crawford County, Ohio.¹ Matilda's husband, Thomas, died before 17 April 1845 in Crawford County, Ohio, leaving her a widow. Matilda married 2nd Henry Augustine on 17 April 1845 in Ohio. Matilda was noted on her father's estate records, 16 Mar 1850, as wife of Henry Augustine.² Henry & Matilda had children: Isaiah [1846-11/08/1901], Josiah [1848-11/02/1923] & Obadiah [1852-4/03/1908][m. 1876 Martha Parsons & 2nd 5/07/1902 Emma Craft]. 11 November 1850, Matilda and her husband, Henry, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Holmes Township, Crawford County, Ohio. Enumerated in this household were Henry Augustine [ 36 Ohio], Matilda [31 Ohio], Isaiah [4 Ohio], Joshua [2 Ohio]. Henry is a laborer; they have real estate valued at $200.³ 5 June 1860, Matilda and her husband Henry were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Holmes Township. Enumerated in this household were Henry Augustine [46 Ohio], Matilda [45 Ohio], Isaia [12 Ohio], Obadiah [8 Ohio] & Joshua [10 Ohio].⁴ 25 July 1870, Matilda and her husband, Henry, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Holmes Township. Enumerated in this household were Henry Augustin [55 Ohio][butcher],his wife:Matilda [44 Ohio], Isaih [22 Ohio], Josiah [21 Ohio] & Obadiah [18 Ohio].⁵ 12 June 1880, Matilda and her husband, Henry, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Holmes Township. Enumerated in this household were Henry Augustin [64 Ohio], his wife: Matilda [50 Ohio], Isiah [32 Ohio] & Josiah [29 Ohio]. Isiah is a butcher and Henry & Josiah are farming.⁶ Matilda's husband, Henry, died on 15 November 1882 in Holmes Township leaving her a widow. Matilda departed this life on Thursday, 12 July 1894 in Crawford County, Ohio. She was buried in Liberty Township, Crawford County, Ohio, in Crall Cemetery (Liberty Chapel).⁷
