Saier de Quincey 1st Earl of Wincester

     Saier de was born circa 1150 in Long Buckby, Northamptonshire, England.¹ Saier married Margaret de Beaumont Countess of Wincester circa 1172 in England.¹ Saier was very active throughout his life, during which there was an extreme amount of turmoil both within and without the country. In the various battles and between the barons and the King and with other countries, Saier and his son were at times supporting the King and at others were at odds with him. As time went on and the barons became more and more unhappy with how they were being treated, Saier became one of the leaders in resisting King John's brand of tyranny. At the culmination, the barons chose 25 of their own to sign and present the famous Magna Carter to King John. His son was also one of the chosen. After the signing and peace was restored, Saier chose to go to the Holy Lands as part of the 5th Crusade.² Saier died on Sunday, 3 November 1219 in Damietta, Egypt, after he fell ill soon after arriving there as part of the 5th Crusade.^3,1 He was buried in Acre, Israel.
