Elizabeth Nickerson1

     Elizabeth was born in the parish of St. Peter's Permontergate, Norwich, County Norfolk, England. She was christened there on 1 January 1629/30 in St. Peter's Permontergate Parish Church. She was the daughter of William Nickerson II and Anne Busby. Elizabeth married Robert Eldridge on 31 October 1649 in Yarmouth, Barnstable County, Massachusetts. Robert & Elizabeth had children: Nicholas [8/18/1650-4/30/1702], Mary [m. 11/30/1688 John Smith], Robert [d. 10/05/1732], Hannah, Martha, William [d. 1749], Joseph [m. Elizabeth Jones], Bridget [m. William Long] & Samuel [m. Elizabeth Hedges].2 Elizabeth's husband, Robert, died in 1682 in Monomoit, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, leaving her a widow. Elizabeth departed this life before 3 May 1706 in Monomoit, Barnstable County, Massachusetts. Prior to her death, she signed a paper where her daughters, Hannah & Martha agreed to share her property with their sister, Bridget. The division of this property was recorded on 03 May 1706.2

The first property deed in Chatham was executed in January 1661-2 when William turned over Elizabeth's farm to her. Elizabeth as a widow, signed an agreement with her daughters Hannah and Martha, 16 July 1695, to share the property with their sister Bridget after her death. This was recorded as a will 3 May 1706.
