Abigail Meeker

     Abigail was born on Thursday, 21 October 1734 in Elizabeth Town, Essex County, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Benjamin Meeker. Abigail married Isaiah Vail, son of Josiah Vail and Patience Corwin, in 1751 in New York. Abigail's husband, Isaiah, died on 1 January 1810 in the Town of Wallkill leaving her a widow. Abigail made her will on 20 April 1810 at the Town of Wallkill, Orange County, New York. She mentions her "two youngest daughters," Irena Mapes and Abigail Mills, also her daughter Mary Dolson and her son John. She also mentions her grand daughters Sarah Smith, Abigail Smith, Aluga Smith, Mary Vail, & Abigail Carpenter. Executors: John Cox and Daniel Bailey. Witnesses: John Thompson, George W. Vail, Silas W. Smith.¹ Abigail departed this life on Thursday, 10 March 1814 in the Town of Wallkill at age 79 years, 4 months and 17 days. She was buried there in Hillside Cemetery. In Memory of Abigail Vail wife of Isaiah Vail who departed this life on March 10 1814 in the 80th year of her age.² Her will was probated on 16 March 1814.
