Amos Baldwin1
M, b. 22 April 1744, d. 4 October 1836
Amos was born in Durham, Middlesex County, Connecticut. He was christened there on 22 April 1744 in Durham.2 He was the son of Ezra Baldwin and Ruth Curtis. Sometime after 1750, he moved to Granville, Massachusetts where his brothers had settled. Amos married Margary Munson circa 1766 in Granville, Hampden County, Massachusetts. Amos and Margery had children: Curtiss [8/11/1679-5/12/1857] [m. 1792 Rachel Coe], Ruth [5/08/1773-2/20/1761], Orpha [8/13/1775-10/__/1837] Amos [12/13/1776-8/03/1860] [m. 12/11/1805 Anna Hamilton], Margery [2/27/1779], Truman [9/271780-7/27/1865] [m. 9/__/1808 Sarah Lindsey].3 Amos's wife, Margary, died on 30 March 1827 in Granville leaving him a widower. Amos made his will on 7 January 1829 at Granville, Hampden County, Massachusetts.
Be it remembered that I Amos Baldwin of Gransville in the County of Hampton an Common wealth of Massachusetts being in good health and of Sound mind and memory do on this ye 7th of January A D 1829 make and publish this my last will I testament - - - I give and bequeath my home lot containing about 40 acres with all the buildings thereon except the Cidermill as follows - - One half thereof to my son Amos Baldwin to him and his heirs and assigns forever and the other half to my two daughters in common, to have the use and improvement of the same during their natural lives and then to go to Watson Sylvester Baldwin to him and his heirs and assigns forever - - - 2nd I give and bequeath the half of the Cidermill with all necessary privileges and appurtenances to my son Curtis Baldwin to have and to hold to him and his heirs and assigns forever - - - I give and bequeath all my household furniture, on hogshead four Cider Barrels – all my flour _________[can not interpret] to my two daughters Ruth and Orpha Baldwin in equal shares – also to my said Daughter Ruth one Cow and six sheep – Also to my daughter Orpha one Cow and Six Sheep – Also to my said two daughters one horse if I shall have any at my decease two women saddles and one bridle to them in equal shares - - -4th I give and bequeath all my farming and other tools and utensils to my son Amos Baldwin and his son Watson Sylvester Baldwin in equal shares - - -5th All the remainer of my Estate both Real and Personal after discharging the expense of a proper and decent pair of grave stones I give and bequeath to my Six Children equally to be divided between them to have and their heirs forever - -- And I do hereby Constitute and appoint my two sons Curtis and Amos Baldwin Executors of this my last will and Testament and I do hereby injoin it upon them to see that this my will is justly and fairly carried into effect agreeable to its true intent and meaning - - - In testimony whereof I do hereunto set my hand & Seal the day and year above said - - - Witnesses: James Cooley Elijah Seymour Almira Cooley
. Amos departed this life on Tuesday, 4 October 1836 in Granville at age 92 years, 5 months and 12 days. He was buried there in West Granville Cemetery.4 His will was probated in 1836.
