Especial attention should be called to the married name of Richard Bowin's daughter Ruth. Pope's "Pioneers of Massachusetts", page 6, calls her Ruth "Leverich"; but the original record plainly reads "Ruth Kenericke", in two places. The first letter of the surname is the same as in the word "Knowne", at the beginning of the will, and is entirely unlike the capital letter in " Leanto" and "Lands", in the same record.

M, d. 10 May 1706
Robert was born at Southampton, County of Southampton, England. It is said that In May of 1638, Robert immigrated on the ship "Bevis." from Southampton, England but his name is not seen on the passenger list.3 Robert married Sarah Bowen, daughter of Richard Bowen and Ann (?), on 23 April 1642 at Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massachusetts. He first settled in Salem and soon moved on to Rehoboth. He was a man of significance there and held extensive tracts of land in and around Rehoboth. He was one of the first proprietors in Rehoboth and drew shares in the general divisions of lands in 1661 and 1668. He held the distinction of being the only bricklayer in all of New England for many years. In October of 1676, the Indians over ran the town killing all that they could and burning all in their way. Sarah and two of his sons were killed and his house was lost as well. Robert moved to Salem and remained there until 1696. Robert's wife, Sarah, died on 14 October 1676 in Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massachusetts,, leaving him a widower.4 Robert departed this life on Monday, 10 May 1706 at Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massachusetts.

Robert Wheaton

M, b. 1605, d. 1696
Robert was born in 1605 at Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales. He immigrated to New England about 1636. Robert married Alice Bowen, daughter of Richard Bowen and Ann (?), circa 1640 at Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts. He was a man of independent thought and was unafraid to speak his mind. The result of this trait was that the narrow thinking leaders of the colony drove him out labeling him as “a pestilential fellow”. He removed to Weymouth and met Elder Samuel Newman and went with him to Seekonk. Here Elder Newman renamed the settlement Rehoboth and Robert became an elder of the church of this settlement. He prospered there as a planter; forced to leave there during King Phillip's War, he returned and spent the remainder of his life in Rehoboth.1 Robert departed this life in 1696 at Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massachusetts, at age 91 years.
